Anthony Joshua has officially announced the fight with Joseph Parker this morning and is already in full training mode ahead of what promises to be a big night for boxing.
The unification fight will take place on March 31st in Cardiff, Wales and without doubt is the biggest fight of the early 2018 boxing calendar so far.
Anthony Joshua has quickly established himself as the biggest star in world boxing in a pro career that has decimated opponents and so far seen him retain a 100% knockout ratio.
The biggest threat to that ratio by far is Parker this March. A man renowned for his toughness, chin and durability.
Reacting to the news being made official today, Joshua said:
“I would like to announce the official news that myself and Joseph Parker will be fighting on March 31 at Principality Stadium in Cardiff. It is a unification Heavyweight championship fight, we all know what happened last time I was in a unification Heavyweight championship fight, it was gruelling, it was interesting and we both left the ring with masses of respect.”
Indeed his fight last with Carlos Takam was a “gruelling” one.
A bloody battle that saw both men with bad cuts during the contest with Takam left in a battered pulp before the fight was stopped in the 10th round.
Joshua suffered a nasty broken nose early on in the fight and showed his toughness to battle on and close the show while you could clearly see him having trouble with his breathing due to the broken nose.
He continued to say of the news of the Parker fight being made official today:
“These fights aren’t easy because there is a lot on the line, so respect to team Parker for taking the challenge. And you know me, I love this game. I am looking forward to it, training camp is underway and before you know it March 31 will be upon us. Stay tuned for more news and I will see you all soon, God bless.”
That’s it. We are all set now.
Sit back, relax and enjoy the build-up to this and ultimately the fight. Don’t expect many verbal wars from either guy in the run up though.
That’s not their style. The fight itself though should be a cracker.
