Murat Gassiev and Yunier Dorticos shared the ring in a thrilling contest this past weekend that saw world champion Gassiev progress to the final of the WBSS, but Cuban Dorticos’ stock also dramatically went up.
Boxing is one of those sports that perhaps has the best sportsmanship of them all.
Mutual respect between fighters is commonplace after a contest has finished and blows have been exchanged.
This past weekend in the World Boxing Super Series this was none more so evident in the post-fight press conference when winner Gassiev comforted and consoled loser Dorticos.
But another beautiful moment has now emerged as spotted by journalist Michael Benson (hat tip) here:

Great stuff. Fair play lads.
Despite losing, there is no doubt that a number of opportunities for Dorticos will come up out of this after such a fine display at the weekend.
As for Gassiev, he now moves onto the final of the World Boxing Super Series where he’ll face Muhammad Ali trophy favorite Usyk in the final.
The World Boxing Super Series has proven to be a big hit thus far since it started out in 2017 and shows that there is more and more of an appetite for competition formats in boxing.
