Former heavyweight champion of the world Tyson Fury is reportedly broke according to a UK tabloid who claim that he is on social welfare benefits despite a successful career to date.
Having said that, Fury has not fought in nearly two and a half years so has not earned from boxing in that time and has also had to contend with a number of expenses including a legal case with UKAD which was resolved recently.
This week Fury was pictured in Spain posing in a new mansion in total luxury but according to the Daily Record in the UK, Fury said:
“To be honest, I’m skint. I don’t have any money in the bank. I’m on the dole. I’m on Jobseeker’s Allowance at the moment. I’m not winding you up – I’m being truthful. Seriously, I didn’t make any money out of boxing at all. Don’t feel sorry for me – it’s not a bad thing.”
On the £4 million pounds he earned from the Wladimir Klitschko fight in November of 2015, after tax Fury said that is now all gone due to:
“I give my promotional team half of the money and I donate the other half to charity or give it to people in need because I don’t think people should make money out of punching other people in the face. I fight because I love to fight.”
Fury is currently training hard in Spain with new trainer Ben Davison ahead of an expected comeback to the sport in April.
No opponent has been confirmed yet but it is thought that Shannon Briggs and Manuel Charr are leading contenders for his first fight back.
