May 5th is the date Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez will have their rematch with a venue expected to be announced in the next week or so.
It’s down to two.
Speaking to members of the media in a media scrum Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler revealed:
“Madison Square Garden wants to make a big bid on the fight. Gennady has fought there six times. Canelo has never fought there. Any fighter who really wants to cement their legacy Madison Square Garden is the most historic venue in the world. Las Vegas (on) Cinco De Mayo its hard to beat.”
He added:
“We had a great experience up there. Our host hotel was Mandalay Bay for the GGG side and MGM had Canelo as their host hotel. This is the type of event that every city wants but those are the two (Vegas and New York) that can put together the strongest financial proposal.”
Las Vegas and New York both have their advantages and are probably the two biggest fights States in the US.
The first fight back in September took place in Las Vegas.
Don’t be surprised if Sin City wins the rights to host the rematch.
