Big fight mania is upon us once again this weekend as George Groves and Chris Eubank Jr prepare to do battle in the semi-final of the World Boxing Super series.
Every man and his dog in the boxing world has an opinion on how the fight will go but from a promotional point of view, perhaps there are few more qualified than promoter Eddie Hearn to have a shot at calling the fight.
Speaking to Kugan Cassius of IFL TV, Hearn said:
“I’ve gone a full 360 on it, I think George Groves is the favourite and I think he can stop him. Eubank may be the real deal, which we will find out, but what worries me is I look at Eubank hitting the pads with his mate and I sort of think you’re not really thinking about the fight or what you’re doing and the dad says, when you have the natural talent of Junior, you don’t need a trainer.”
Groves certainly carries a lot of punching power but whether he has enough to actually stop Eubank Jr inside the distance is questionable.
Having said that, Groves did put down Carl Froch in their first fight.
A man who had as good a chin as anyone in recent boxing memory.
Eubank Jr will surely not want to get hit too much from the big Groves right hand. No matter how good a chin he has.
The best chin after all is the one that doesn’t get hit.
