Former world champion Kell Brook has now spoke in public for the first time about issues that the general public were not aware of since losing to Errol Spence.
The former IBF welterweight world champion has had a strong career to date when you look at it overall.
He’s been in some huge fights and done well out of the sport, from the outside it looks at least.
But no one knows what’s going on in someone’s head behind closed doors.
As rosy as things may have seemed, after losing his world title to Errol Spence Jr in his hometown last year things hit him hard he has now revealed.
Speaking to Glenn McCrory of Boxing Social YouTube (hat tip) Brook opened up on the tough times for the first time:
It just goes to show how hard a defeat can be for some of these elite level boxers who as strong as they might appear to be on the exterior, are just human like us all in the inside.
Other boxers like Ricky Hatton in recent years have also spoke in public how suffering defeats in his own career sent him into a state of deep depression and excessive drinking.
Former heavyweight champion of the world Tyson Fury also had a battle with depression and substance issues in recent years.
Kell Brook will next fight Siarhei Rabchanka on March 3rd at the Sheffield Arena.
