One of the very few people out there that give Mayweather a shot against McGregor in an MMA fight is current WBO middleweight world champion Billy Joe Saunders.
He gives him more than just a shot in fact. He actually thinks he’d beat him.
Speaking ahead of his next fight against Martin Murray, Saunders outlined his thoughts on the fight to James Helder of IFL:
“I’d rather see the octagon fight. I personally think that Mayweather will beat him in the octagon. I personally think Mayweather would beat him in there. What you might see now is the rules change and that. I can’t see them being 5 minute rounds. I can’t see them doing that. They’ll probably be three-minute or two-minute rounds. Something like that. I personally think. I think they will (the rules) be adapted a little bit here and there. I don’t know. I don’t think it will be the normal stand up five minute, three rounder anyway. I’ll put it that way.”
McGregor has said in recent days however that negotiations have now been pulled out of by Mayweather’s team for a potential fight between the two.
Time will tell.
