Brandon Rios fought his heart out as usual this past weekend in a fight that ultimately ended in a knockout win for his opponent Danny Garcia.
Garcia paid tribute to Rios’ toughness after the fight.
After coming into the bout as a heavyweight favourite to beat Rios handily, Rios surprised a lot of people with the display he put on.
Speaking in a media scrum at a press day Garcia said of what Rios said to him after the fight:
“At one point in the locker room in front of everybody he was pretty much asking me why did I do it? Bro you know me I would die in the ring why did you stop it? Still thinking that it was me. Everybody told him Brandon you were hurt. His wife told him Brandon you can’t blame nobody you were hurt. I know you were hurt. I’m your wife. Robert did the right thing. Still thinking it was me. But after, it was only like us there in the locker room, because I made that decision to stop it. But everybody else since didn’t see me trying to stop it. It was the ref who (actually) stopped it. But he (Brandon) was a little upset. It’s part of boxing.”
There’s no denying that Brandon Rios has one of the biggest hearts in boxing and whatever he does next, we wish him all the very best.
