Many had called for Deontay Wilder to face a test of noteworthy challenge in the ring and on in his seventh defence of his WBC heavyweight title, he finally got it.
He was badly hurt and made to think, work and sweat against Cuban Luis Ortiz before closing the show in true heavyweight champion fashion in round 10 this weekend in New York.
Wilder will be a man waking up feeling more of a world heavyweight champion more than ever this morning.
One suspects.
The morning after the night before will prove to be an enjoyable one no doubt.
Since the fight he has taken to social media with the following short, but simple message for the first time since securing the win:
Long live the king…. #BombZquad pic.twitter.com/QW5KrCLA2i

No doubt the likes of Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will have a lot to say about that, mind you.
But for now, Wilder can deservingly bask in his glory after arguably the best win of his professional boxing career thus far.
