Former world champion shocked a number of people by missing weight ahead of this weekend’s world title fight with Oscar Valdez.
Quigg (34-1-1-25KO) takes on Oscar Valdez (23-0-19KO) tonight in California but Valdez’ WBO world title will not be on the line for Quigg after missing weight.
He came in a massive 2.8lbs over weight which in terms of elite level featherweight boxers, is a lot of weight by normal standards.
Some have suggested it could have been a tactical move due to the amount he missed by weight.
The fight still goes ahead but here’s some of the reaction from around the boxing world to Quigg’s weight miss:
Anyone think it was a tactical move by Quigg to come over weight ? ? really looking forward to the fight it has WAR written all over it! #BombsAway #ValdezQuigg

2.6lbs overweight at featherweight is like 856 stone overweight for normal sized people that’s terrible from quigg

BIG NEWS! Scott Quigg has missed weight! He weighs 128.8 pounds. 2.8 pounds over the limit. He can’t win the world title tomorrow night. Oscar Valdez weighs 125.8. #Boxing

❌⚖ Disaster for Scott Quigg as he has weighed in 2.8lbs OVER the limit. Can’t attempt to lose it as the local commission won’t allow him to lose that much. WBO title not on the line for him now.

Scott Quigg still won’t have won a world title even if he beats Valdez tomorrow. Top banter.

Quigg is known as one of the most hard working & disciplined professionals out there.
Maybe camp hasn’t gone well?..possibly a Brit not getting the attention he needs out in the states or maybe he’s simply outgrown the division?
Whatever, he’s not done it on purpose.— Dave Coldwell (@davidcoldwell) March 9, 2018
Scott Quigg – Everything was on track, my body seems to have frozen. Yesterday I was only three pounds over. It just wouldn’t budge. I’ve done everything. I apologise to Oscar and his team. I have tried and tried, there’s nothing more that I can say. #ValdezQuigg ???? pic.twitter.com/OTegkH9KuO

3 lbs over by Quigg? Ha ha ha ha ha.
To be fair, if you’re asking him to count up to 126 it was always going to be a struggle.

I am told that Quigg suffered a fractured foot in training, so was restricted in doing his roadwork. Apparently his weight was ok this week and he was 4lb over on Thursday but could not get final pounds off #boxing #QuiggValdez

@EddieHearn true that Quigg has been drinking too much banter juice before the weigh in?!
