Scott Quigg suffered loss to Oscr Valdez this weekend but before the fight even happened the main story surrounded Quigg missing weight.
The WBO title was not on the line for Quigg as consequence after he came in nearly 3lbs overweight on Friday.
This was very out of character for Quigg, a man known to be one of the most dedicated in the entire sport.
After losing a unanimous points decision to Oscar Valdez Quigg pointed to a fractured foot for the reason that hampered him on fight week from shifting the last few pounds on British television afterwards:
“It wasn’t a tactic – four weeks ago, I fractured my foot.”
Indeed Quigg gave a superb account of himself in a fight what could have been one of the best fights to watch on ESPN this yer so fr.
Both men were happy to trade in the bout in spurts.
Afterwards Quigg said Valdez was not the hardest puncher that he was in with to date but said:
“He could certainly punch.”
Despite the loss Quigg will have made a lot of new fans with his fan-friendly performance this weekend.
Featherweight seems to suit him much more than super-bantmweight.
