Scott Quigg has been in the wars these past few years, to be it lightly. A broken jaw a couple of years back to Carl Frampton and now tonight – perhaps one of the worst broken noses seen for some time in boxing.
Quigg as he always does, fought with his heart and gave it absolutely everything tonight in California against WBO featherweight champion Oscar Valdez.
But alas, it wasn’t to be enough.
Quality work won out over work rate in the end and Valdez was rightly awarded a unanimous points verdict in what was a tremendous battle from start to finish.
One of the main stories in the fight were the injuries sustained by both men who in true boxer fashion, both fought on through them and finished out the twelve championship rounds to the delight of the crowd.
Valdez lost a tooth and got a broken jaw, while Quigg suffered this nasty broken nose:

Quigg will now have to regroup again and go back to the drawing board with trainer Freddie Roach.
But he can hold his head held high after tonight’s stellar performance.
With the fight being shown live on ESPN across the US – he will have won a lot of new fans tonight.
