Carl Frampton got the job done in fine style tonight with a unanimous points win over a very game and tough Nonito Donaire in Belfast.
Going up against the Amir Khan fight for TV ratings, thankfully by the time Khan dispatched of his foe in the first round – fans had a chance to switch over to the Frampton vs Donaire fight with plenty of time tonight.
And what a cracking scrap it turned out to be.
Frampton took the fight by 117-111 on all three judges’ scorecards in the end and after the fight the victor gave a brutally honest reaction:
“As you can see from the 12th round, Nonito Donaire is a dangerous mother****** from start to finish. Only one thing on my mind at the minute, Windsor Park. I can’t wait to get there.”
Afterwards promoter Frank Warren added that a Windsor Park outdoor stadium fight is being lined up for August with an opponent being currently looked at.
Indeed, Windsor Park should be an epic, befitting venue for a man who has dreamed of fighting there since a child.
It will be interesting to see what opponent is being lined up, and, if it will be a world title shot as a cherry on top for Frampton’s dream Windsor Park date with destiny.
