Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren believes he knows who Anthony Joshua will be facing next up and if he’s right it will come as a bit of a disappointment to boxing fans.
The fight the world wants to see is of course the unification between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder next up.
A bout of monumental proportions that would see the coming together of two heavyweights in the biggest heavyweight title fight since Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson.
But it’s not going to happen next for Joshua according to Warren.
Speaking at the post-fight press conference for Fury vs Seferi, the legendary promoter said:
“I think Anthony Joshua is fighting Alexander Povetkin in September, so he will not fight until next year now and I think Wilder has got a mandatory. In the meantime, we have to get Tyson more competitive fights.”
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has said recently that he believes it will be Povetkin next and then Wilder after that.
Joshua himself has recently mentioned that they have until the end of the month to wrap up negotiations with Wilder if he was to face him next.
As he will need a minimum three-month training camp for the fight if it were to happen in September.
