All four men did pretty well this weekend financially for their pugilistic exploits in what proved to be a fun night of boxing in California.
While a lot of the world’s attention this weekend was on the heavyweight division with Tyson Fury’s comeback, two world championship fights of note took place in California.
Both Leo Santa Cruz and Jermell Charlo defended their respective world titles over the distance over Abner Mares and Austin Trout respectively.
Both move on to potentially big fights.
The fight purses for everyone involved this weekend as per the California State Athletic Commission were:
Leo Santa Cruz $1 million, Abner Mares $750,000, Jermell Charlo $750,000 and Austin Trout $250,000.
Not a bad night’s work if you can get it.
Note the above were only the disclosed purses for the fights that took place on Showtime and may not include the full amount each fighter made depending on the deal they have in place.
That may for example include additional payments relating to ticket sales, sponsorship and international TV / streaming rights.
