Four-weight world champion Leo Santa Cruz put in another impressive display at the weekend when he beat fellow Mexican rival Abner Mares in California.
Santa Cruz scored a unanimous points verdict for his effort and won plaudits far and wide.
One such piece of praise came from old foe Carl Frampton who Santa Cruz has fought twice so far in his career.
Following the bout Frampton said:
@leosantacruz2 congratulations on a great performance champ. Ready when you are ?

The score is currently 1-1 between Santa Cruz and Frampton with a trilogy surely making sense accordingly before both fighters eventually retire.
Frampton is set to announce his August 18th Windsor Park stadium opponent this week and while the prospect of that being Santa Cruz seemingly unlikely due to the short turnaround time the Mexican would have, surely the fight can be eyed before the end of the year.
The issue for the trilogy in the past seemed to stem around Frampton wanting Santa Cruz to come to Belfast and either Santa Cruz or his team wanting the part three to take place again in the US.
One way or another fans are going to call for this fight again – sooner or later.
