The pound for pound boxing star is fresh off becoming a three-weight world champion with his win over Australian Jeff Horn but will be kept busy according to his promoter.
The stoppage win over Horn ensured Crawford became the WBO welterweight champion and announced himself as a force at 147lbs.
Big fights loom on the horizon for Horn be they fights outside of his stable against the likes of Danny Garcia, Keith Thurman, Errol Spence or Shawn Porter.
Or even possibly a showdown late in the year against fellow stablemate and boxing legend Manny Pacquiao.
Speaking to ESPN, Crawford’s promoter Bob Arum gave an update on when he wants Crawford back out on October 13th live on ESPN in his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska.
However if the Pacquiao vs Matthysse fight next month were to not come off, Arum also mentioned that Matthysse could be an opponent for Crawford:
“I don’t know what’s going to happen with the fight, but if it doesn’t happen, I would hope to talk to Golden Boy about having Matthysse fight Crawford.”
ESPN have reported that the promoter staging the Pacquiao vs Matthysse fight, Pacquiao’s own promotional company, have already missed some financial deadlines in terms of financing the bout.
Although Arum is Pacquiao’s promoter at Top Rank he is only looking after the US TV distribution of the fight next month and is not actually promoting the event, it is understood.
