English boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has made a rather laughable statement to boxing fans when making a comparison between the Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder fight and the Joshua vs Alexander Povetkin fight.
Surely, wherever you are from, whomever you support, if you’re a boxing fan you’d agree that the fight we all wanted to see next up was Joshua vs Wilder.
Hands down, no question. Not Joshua vs Povetkin.
But that’s what we have now, unfortunately.
A deal looks set to be agreed soon between both teams with the Joshua vs Wilder fight looking further away than ever before.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Hearn has made quite a remarkable claim about the Joshua vs Povetkin fight being a more competitive one than the Wilder fight and then had the bravery to say that the fans should be happy:
“The fans should be happy, they should not be disappointed, because to be honest with you, I think the fans are going to get a much more competitive and exciting fight in this one.”
Oh dear, oh dear.
Why were the WBA pushing so hard for a mandatory? Surely they realized how big a Wilder unification would have been and better for them, too?
Telling the fans what they should be happy with when the fight they clearly wanted was Joshua vs Wilder is going to go down like a sack of potatoes.
With fans on both sides of the pond.
