Controversial commentator Teddy Atlas didn’t exactly sing the praises of Manny Pacquiao following his knockout win over Lucas Matthysse this weekend.
Atlas has a reputation for calling it as it is and having a fiery temper.
Only last year when Pacquiao lost his WBO welterweight title to Australian Jeff Horn, Atlas immediately told Horn to his face in the post fight interview that he didn’t deserve to win the title – in his opinion.
Pacquiao, while standing next to proceedings when he said it, started laughing at the time.
Well, the boot appears to be on the other foot this time round.
Atlas, despite many praising Pacquiao’s performance last night, had a rather salty reaction to what he saw in Malaysia.
Speaking to ESPN after the fight, Atlas said:
“If you have a heavy bag (Lucas Matthysse), you look good.”
He continued to say:
“All you Pac maniac fans out there, no disrespect. Give him a lot of credit, he’s 39-years-old. He got the job done. He looked good against a 36-year-old, who in the end, quit. A diminished Matthysse. He did not fight. He did not try.”
Comparing Lucas Matthysse might be a little harsh in all fairness.
He was four years Pacquiao’s junior coming into the fight, had clearly trained hard and was tipped by many to end Pacquiao’s legendary career.
What do you think of Atlas’ opinion?
