Former coach to Manny Pacquiao Freddie Roach has given a glowing review of his friend’s win last weekend in Malaysia.
Roach and Pacquiao may have parted company but they will always remain friends after what was one of the most epic runs in boxing history that saw Pacquiao become the first eight-weight world champion in history.
Speaking to Boxeo Mundial on Pacquiao’s 7th round TKO win last weekend over Lucas Matthysse, Roach said:
“I think he looked great. I thought he and Buboy did a good job. It was a good performance, he fought very well.”
He added:
“(He) just walked right through him. The footwork and everything were right there. The uppercut was a beautiful shot. He found that weakness early. He fought very well.”
He concluded:
“I thought his footwork was a lot better. He was back up on his toes and moving very good and that means his defense was a lot better. He put everything together, he was very good.”
Pacquiao has been linked with fights against the likes of Terence Crawford, Amir Khan and Vasyl Lomachenko next up.
It is not clear if Roach is permanently gone from Pacquiao’s corner at this point or whether or not it was just for the Matthysse fight.
