Liam Smith challenged for the WBO super-welterweight title last night and although came up short, left it all in the ring and gave a good account of himself in Las Vegas.
He was always going to be up against it against Mungia but after another strong showing in the States following his gutsy performance against Canelo Alvarez in recent times, likely Smith will have put himself in the shop window for a big fight again in the near future.
Mungia won by wide margins on the scorecards by unanimous decision last night.
Here’s some of the reaction from around the boxing world to the fight last night:
All you can ask of a fighter is leave it all in the ring. Liam Smith did that tonight, he may have come second but what an effort, Incredible.

Shame for Liam Smith that his two biggest fights have come against good fighters who rehydrated to light-heavyweight in the ring.

Liam smith is undoubtedly the best junior middle weight in british boxing, he took on a young and great champion tonight & took him the distance in a gruelling fight. His family can be very proud of him he’s a true fighting man with a true fighting heart. well done. ??❤??

Munguia vs. Liam Smith was a tremendous fight. Don’t know what fight Lederman was watching, I’d say Beefy won a few rounds. Undoubtedly the best Smith brother, as he always has been.
Smith rankings:
1. Liam
2. Stephen3. Callum
