Kalle Sauerland has arguably built a reputation as the people’s promoter in recent times for his partying exploits and care free, often hilarious attitude, but he’s shown a more serious side today as he put the boot in on one of his competitors.
Well, not direct competitors in the sense of a rival boxing promoter, but a competing network to where his World Boxing Super Series’ fights will be shown on next season in the US.
The WBSS will be shown to US fans exclusively on the new DAZN streaming platform headed by Eddie Hearn of Matchroom and Sauerland was not impressed with rival network HBO’s performance this weekend with the Kovalev vs Alvarez fight.
Speaking after Kovalev’s stoppage defeat last night, Sauerland said:
Big fan of Kovalev in his prime but @HBOboxing should be ashamed of the decisions it’s made. THREE fight deal ?for a man who just got battered by @andreward shows desperation. Especially as it came on the back of Krusher having talks with #WBSS… #BoxingMovingForward #DAZN ??

Being a boxing fan in America isn’t exactly cheap these days.
Or easy.
While boxing is booming once again in the US and UK, in the US the sport is now shown on four different major networks that cost fans different monthly bills between Showtime, HBO, ESPN+ and now DAZN.
Add to that pay per view events, too.
