Son of former world champion and one time pound for pound star Kostya Tszyu, Tim Tszyu, recorded his 10th professional boxing win in Australia but fans were disgusted with the conduct of his opponent.
Tszyu fought Stevie Ongen Ferdinandus for the World Boxing Council Asian Boxing Council Continental Super Welterweight Title last Friday night and recorded a dubious first round knockout win.
Upon watching replays of the shot in question that dropped Ferdinandus, it was quite clear that nothing connected on him other than a possibly glancing blow on his glove.
The commentators’ baffled, embarrassed reaction says it all:
Social media has been littered with fans blasting the above punch in recent days with many referring to it as a ‘phantom punch’.
Tszyu no doubt has an abundance of talent and potential, mind you, which is unfortunate that was not highlighted because of the above.
That said, he’s now at the stage at 10-0 in his career where he could make the move to the UK or US and look to up the caliber of his opposition and take his career to the next level.
