Roy Jones Jr was on hand in the HBO commentary at the weekend for Sergey Kovalev’s stoppage defeat to Alvarez in Atlantic city and didn’t mince his words afterwards when asked where he believes Kovalev’s career is at.
Many believe it is at its end following such a conclusive defeat for a man who not long ago was regarded as one of the world’s very best boxers, pound for pound.
But boxing can be a cruel, merciless sport, where things can change in the blink of an eye and leave a formerly celebrated champion out in the cold.
Following the bout on Saturday, here’s what Roy Jones had to say:
Roy just put the official DONE stamp on Kovalev. #boxing #KovalevAlvarez pic.twitter.com/3rhPpOwpjq

Jones knows all too well about suffering knockout defeats towards the end of his own boxing career and is perhaps is best positioned to make such a call.
Given his experience in the light-heavyweight division himself.
If it does prove to be the last time we see Sergey ‘Krusher’ Kovalev in a pro boxing ring, he can certainly hold his head held high after a stellar career.
An always entertaining, big punching style won over many boxing fans over the years.
Time will tell what he chooses to do next.
