The usually softly spoken, respectful Gennany Golovkin perhaps for the first time in his career is facing a man who he genuinely hates next up. If you look at the destructive knockouts he’s had over the years without that edge, next month could be painful for Canelo.
But the Mexican boxing star is training ferociously himself, seemingly spurred on by motivation to clear his name after all the drug testing controversy over the last year since their first middleweight title showdown.
A proud Mexican warrior, he’ll be coming all guns blazing at Golovkin next month. No doubt about it.
Golovkin has been reported this week to be on edge and even snapping at media. A great sign in my opinion.
It shows just how serious he’s training at the moment.
As pointed out by Talk Sport’s Michael Benson, he also bit to a question about Canelo being the toughest opponent of his career:
? Gennady Golovkin on whether Canelo is his toughest opponent to date: “He’s the most unpleasant and dirtiest opponent I’ve ever had. Dirty in the taking of substances that are prohibited and trying to blame other people.”

Genuine animosity should ensure next month’s rematch in Las Vegas on September 15th should be a classic.
Both guys want this badly.
I’m honestly expecting a more toe to toe battle this time with boxing tactics going out the window after a couple of rounds.
