The final countdown to September 15th is now well underway as both Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez completed their 30 day weight checks ahead of the fight.
The pair have made the move to not meet one another until fight week of the fight and to not do a face off type program with one another in the build-up.
Some have criticized the lack of promotion as harmful to the fight’s pay per view sales while others have pointed to the genuine dislike for one another, to the point of not be willing to meet until fight week, as building the fight’s story line even more.
Promotion aside, the reality of what lays in front of them is getting closer and closer and now both have completed their 30 day weight checks as follows:
- Canelo Alvarez: 167.4lbs
- Gennady Golovkin: 168.3lbs
Both the above are pretty good results in fairness.
With the fight’s weight limit taking place at 160lbs, this gives both loads of time to not have to worry about dropping crazy amounts of weight and focus on the final weeks of sparring and tactical preparation ahead.
The fight takes place on September 15th in Las Vegas and will be a HBO pay per view event.
