Deontay Wilder got in the ring with Tyson Fury tonight after Fury beat Francesco Pianeta over ten rounds tonight in Windsor Park in Belfast.
Ten rounds proved vital for Fury who needed to shake off ring rust as he knew in the back of his mind a shot against Wilder would need him to get more rounds tonight.
And get them he did.
Granted, it was not the most entertaining fight for those wanting a knockout, but it was a flawless boxing display that got him the rounds he needed and saw him take virtually no punishment at all.
Promoter Frank Warren said the fight will be announced next week and that it is on.
Fury then proceeded to stand in front of Wilder’s face and vowed to knock him out when they fight later in Las Vegas before Christmas.
The WBC champion against the lineal champion will without doubt be good for the sport of boxing with the winner facing Anthony Joshua in 2019 to then crown an undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
Here’s the moment Fury and Wilder squared off in the ring tonight in Belfast:
