With talks of a possible Manny Pacquiao vs Amir Khan fight in the works if ‘Pacman’ chooses to sign with Eddie Hearn and streaming giant DAZN, it begs the question, just how big could a fight between the two be?
Khan first off must get past Samuel Vargas next up but provided he does that in a couple of weeks time, a December slot is potentially open for both him and Pacquiao to do battle.
A lot will hinge, if not everything will hinge, on Pacquiao signing with Khan’s promoter Eddie Hearn in the first place.
But if he did, what a whale of a fight this really is.
When you look at Amir Khan’s social media following, outside of Pacquiao and Mayweather and stars of today’s times Canelo Alvarez and Anthony Joshua, Khan has the next biggest social media following out of any other boxer in the world.
Lets break down their social media numbers quickly (all numbers at the time of this article)
Amir Khan global social media following
Twitter followers: 2.22 million
Instagram followers: 1.2 million
Facebook followers: 4.2 million
Manny Pacquiao social media following
Twitter: 2.5 million
Instagram: 4.3 million
Facebook: 11.89 million
As you can see, for boxers, their global appeal around the world is absolutely huge.
Surely this fight could sell out a stadium in the UK if Khan didn’t take on Kell Brook as expected in December.
The Brook fight will still be there for Khan at the end of the day, win or lose to Pacquiao.
In fact, Khan could probably fight Pacquiao at the Principality stadium in Cardiff next December and follow it up with another stadium fight the following summer somewhere in the UK against Brook.
That said, the ball lays in Manny Pacquiao’s court for the time being.
