It looks like a Tony Bellew vs Oleksandr Usyk fight for all the belts at cruiserweight is set to be announced any time now as both Bellew has began training today for the fight.
Usyk recently won the World Boxing Super Series in an emphatic display in the tournament overall that saw him solidify himself as the best cruiserweight fighters in the world.
A formidable fighter, undoubtably, Bellew knows he’s up against it when they get in the ring.
But it’s a challenge the Liverpool man wants and spoke today on Instagram saying:
“I’m in a good place right now! Working hard.. pushing myself on a daily basis once again, I thought I was done with all this but I guess I was wrong as per usual… A challenge has been put to me and I wanna know just how good I really am or can be… Bring on the ultimate test and let’s find out! #AllTheBelts”
Bellew has proven time and time again to doubt him at your peril.
Both his last wins against David Haye were against what the odds makers thought and what this fight really shows, more than anything, is that he actually wants to see how good he is.
I’m sure he could have made more money holding out for a big fight up at heavyweight but this move is refreshing to see.
Particularly in today’s money grab era of pro sports.
A fighter actually looking to take on the best to test himself at the very highest level of his profession.
Old school.
