Kubrat Pulev and Hughie Fury collide in an IBF final eliminator on October 27th in Sofia, Bulgaria and had their official press conference today in Bulgaria announcing the fight.
It’s a fight that on paper appears to be a close one.
Both excellent technical boxers who have plenty of heart and can go into the trenches if they need to, but for the most part, both boxers like to keep things at mid to long-range.
Trainers will be key as a consequence coming up with game plans.
Hughie’s trainer, his father Peter, knows a thing or two about coming up with game plans in big heavyweight fights having trained Tyson Fury (his nephew) to out point previous division kingpin Wladimir Klitschko back in 2015.
This was not lost upon Pulev’s promoter today in Bulgaria.
Ivalyo Gotsev said at today’s press conference:
“It’s such a pleasure to have you here. You’ve made this experience a wonderful one. You’re a fearless warrior. The Tyson (Fury) family. I want to thank Peter personally for getting rid of what was wrong in boxing back in 2015 when he trained Tyson Fury to put an end to a long drought to the heavyweight division (beating Klitschko).”
To which Peter Fury replied:
“Thank you. Appreciate it.”
Hughie added that travelling to Bulgaria for the fight is no problem as he has been travelling to the country for holidays since he was 14.
