Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao has weighed in with who he thinks will win this weekend’s WBC welterweight world title fight between Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter.
The fight for the vacant WBC 147lbs strap could very well see the winner face Pacquiao next year at some point, so it’s little wonder the Filipino boxing icon is paying close attention to the fight.
He recently won the WBA strap at the weight himself via an impressive stoppage win over Lucas Matthysse in Malaysia.
Speaking this week from his home country of The Philippines, Pacquiao said:
“I’m going to give the edge to Danny Garcia. They’re both gritty fighters, but I think Garcia is a little more technical with a little more ring generalship. It should be a great fight, and there’s a possibility of me fighting the winner, but we’ll have to see what happens.”
The fight between Garcia and Porter this weekend takes place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York and will be shown live on Showtime in the US.
As for Pacquiao, he is still in negotiations for his next fight and his next promoter.
But by all accounts, his next fight will not take place in the US and is likely to happen on December 1st or 2nd.
