It’s no secret to those who work in boxing how ruthless and vicious the business can often be. In many ways it’s a terrible business but the purity of the sport itself makes it worth putting up with.
Manny Pacquiao has posted a message on his Instagram account threatening to sue his old promoter and other parties for alleged non-payment of his US TV rights for his last fight against Lucas Matthysse.
The fight was distributed on ESPN a couple of months ago in the US while it took place in Malaysia under Pacquiao’s own M.P. Promotions.
Earlier this year Pacquiao also parted company with Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach.
Although in more amicable circumstances.
Pacquiao has been with Top Rank and Roach for the majority of his professional career and all of his time boxing in the US, so it is unfortunate that at the very end of his career things have had to come to this.
The boxing icon appears to have edited his Instagram post from yesterday removing the text that was accompanying the picture, so perhaps behind the scenes differences are already being worked on and being resolved.
All in all, the whole situation just goes to show how ruthless the boxing business really is.
Time will tell how this story plays out but lets hope we see Pacquiao back in the ring soon.
Doing what he does best.
