UK heavyweight prospect Daniel Dubois has been sparring heavily with Russian Alexander Povetkin ahead of his challenge against Anthony Joshua later this month.
Povetkin will clash with Joshua on September 22nd at Wembley stadium live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports box office in the UK.
Ahead of the fight UK undefeated prospect Joe Joyce turned down the opportunity to spar Povetkin as he didn’t want to assist in helping an opponent fighting a fellow heavyweight from Britain.
Dubois has taken a different mindset however and is treating his job strictly professionally.
Not allowing emotions to get involved and taking work where he can.
Speaking to the UK Metro, Dubois praised Povetkin highly and warned Joshua:
“He’s very clever and savvy in the ring and you can see he’s very experienced. He’s a very technical fighter. He’s been in the game a long, long time. He’s got a lot knowledge about boxing, and he’s got good ring craft.”
Indeed, most within boxing are giving Povetkin a very real chance of pulling this off given his pedigree, Joshua getting dropped in the past and the notable left hook that Povetkin possesses.
A shot which has hurt Joshua before.
Povetkin also has all of Russia behind him who would love nothing more than to see their man beat a Brit for the world heavyweight title.
The thing is though, I’m expecting a p***** off Anthony Joshua on September 22nd after the frustration of the Deontay Wilder talks over the summer and all the trash talk he’s endured online since from both Joshua and even Tyson Fury.
That’s a dangerous combination for someone like Anthony Joshua.
