A video of Canelo appearing to collapse after his weigh-in yesterday ahead of the Gennady Golovkin rematch has surfaced online. However, when you really look at it, more than likely he just missed the chair in fairness.
Dehydration in combat sports has been a huge topic of debate recently.
Both in professional boxing and mixed martial arts.
The general public often have no idea what fighters do to make the weight-limit of a given bout, the torture they put themselves through, the starvation and more.
But perhaps dehydration is up there as the most dangerous aspect of the modern weight cut, where fighters look to boil down more and more in a bid to be bigger at the weight, giving a perceived advantage.
Many have thought that this was the case for Canelo here last night but if you watch it back, he really just missed the chair:
👀 Scary this, @Canelo collapsing at the weigh in, this will be down to severe dehydration, dangerous going into a fight, especially against @GGGBoxing 😳 #caneloggg2 pic.twitter.com/0F0VMSbw8q

He didn’t look dehydrated at the weigh-in at all.
In fairness.
If anything, he looked in the best shape of his career and ready to go ahead of tonight.
He’s also been very slim and trim for weeks leading up to the fight so there wasn’t much of a weight cut for him at all.
If any.
