Canelo Alvarez at just the age of 28 has quite the resume it must be said, whatever your opinion of him is. He’s taken on some of the very best of his era that were available to him at the time. Never ducking anyone.
Last night saw the young Mexican boxing star add another scalp to his resume in the former of middleweight great Gennady Golovkin.
Canelo shocked the world by taking the fight to Golovkin and boxing on the front foot, something that surprised even the most skeptical of media pundits.
A gutsy game plan, it paid off for him in the end.
Now that he has beaten Golovkin here’s the twelve world champions he’s beaten so far in his career:
Golovkin
Vazquez
Khan
Baldomir
Chavez Jr
Cintron
Mosley
Trout
Lara
Cotto
Ndou
Smith
Not a bad record at work by anyone’s standards.
The quality of the man’s work speaks for itself really, but, people will want to see him in there for a third time with Golovkin you’d expect.
Other fights out there for him though could include a showdown with WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders who takes on Demetrius Andrade next up.
Danny Jacobs could be another potential name for Canelo in the new year.
