Roman Gonzalez has ensured that the GGG vs Canelo 2 card tonight has gotten off to an explosive start in Las Vegas.
Talks of Gonzalez’ decline might have come a bit prematurely.
It’s easy for some to forget that not long ago he was the best boxer in the world according to many.
Pound for pound.
He was on course not long ago to equal and surpass Floyd Mayweather’s perfect record (which was beaten recently as it turns out) but back to back defeats in his last two fights brought that dream to a halt.
However Gonzalez has got back in the winner’s column tonight with an emphatic knockout over Moises Fuentes to kick off the HBO action:

What a vicious right hand there. He caught Fuentes wide open during that exchange.
A superb return to form for Gonzalez who has really delivered on HBO over the last few years in terms of entertainment overall.
Next up tonight should be Spike O’Sullivan vs David Lemieux.
Although if fights keep ending this early expect some ‘swing bouts’ or ‘float’ fights in between the main undercard fight action.
What a way to kick things off in Las Vegas tonight on the Golovkin vs Canelo rematch undercard.
