American boxing was watching this weekend as heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua fought for the first time on streaming app DAZN in the US.
While the undercard was a bit of a let down Joshua made sure to make up for it with an impressive 7th round stoppage performance over Russian Alexander Povetkin.
Not long ago there were rumors of UFC President Dana White wanting to get in on the Joshua pie in America, in that he wanted to offer help to Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn when it came to promotional rights in the US.
Joshua extended his contract with Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing however and went on to fight last night on DAZN.
Another promoter who has sung the praises of Joshua in the press is former world champion turned US promoter Oscar De La Hoya.
Following the fight last night De La Hoya said:
Now that’s the real heavyweight champion of the universe @anthonyfjoshua

Indeed, most people at this time now recognize Joshua as the number one fighter in the heavyweight division.
That could all change on December 1st mind you pending the winner of Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury which will have a confirmed venue next week.
