Matchroom Chairman and renowned entrepreneur Barry Hearn has gotten involved in the Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder negotiations and has come in for some criticism online from the buyers of the potential event, the fans.
Largely Barry Hearn has been behind the scenes in recent years in boxing with his son Eddie Hearn doing most of the deals, selling and work.
It appears however due to Wilder’s manager Shelly Finkel having fond memories of working together with Hearn senior in the past, Barry is needed for this deal to go through.
If indeed it does at all.
Wilder first takes on Tyson Fury later this year who could throw a spanner in the works all together.
Speaking on social media Hearn said:
So now a new improved offer has been made to Wilders camp let’s see if they will finally agree to a meeting to discuss or not. Fans will find out if both sides really want this fight and I know AJ does. No obstacles from our end so just waiting for a response.

It’s obviously dependant in wilder winning that fight. Doesn’t stop agreeing terms now so we have everything in place.

Of course it’s dependant in wilder winning but to promote this huge bout properly we need to get global tv ready access sponsors budgets etc now not later. That’s the real world we live in.

Some of the responses have been rather frosty:
It’s getting boring now Barry why don’t you show us fans proof of emails and offers made it’s boring to guys didn’t want the fight it’s clear you are brain washing the fans and then gave us aj povetkin and then whyte is next in line in April embarrassing

It appears that public opinion has not only now crossed over to Wilder’s side and team since this whole mess started earlier this year, not just in the US, but now even in the UK.
The Wilder vs Fury fight getting made fans happy on both sides of the pond at the end of the day.
It’s the fans who pay the bills of the boxers and promoters – the customer is always right.
But, Caveat Emptor (let the buyer beware).
