IBF lightweight mandatory challenger Richard Commey signed his side of the contract for a fight with Mikey Garcia but Garcia has ran out of time to sign his side.
Purse bids have now being called and unless Garcia wants to run the risk of getting stripped, if he doesn’t want to fight Commey he will need to vacate his IBF lightweight title.
Commey has updated people on social media:
The @IBFUSBAboxing have just called for purse bids because they didn’t receive @mikeygarcia signed contract, if you don’t want to fight me just say so and vacate the title! @loudibella @Mickey_Moo @KBouhairie @BoxingGhana @premierboxing @Streetwisemgt @WorldBoxingNews @WBCBoxing

Garcia has been linked with a whole host of fights against bigger names than Commey and for some time now people have thought that he would move up in weight possibly not just one weight class but two to take on Errol Spence.
Perhaps this could be a stalling tactic for that or another fight, who knows.
Garcia is also in deep negotiations to sign with promoter Eddie Hearn and streaming platform DAZN so clearly he has a lot going on.
Sooner or later though he will need to act on the above or risk losing his IBF lightweight title.
Most likely though, that won’t bother him, as the big fights he wants are at weight classes higher than 135lbs.
