Gervonta Davis’ relationship with his promotional company appears to be better than what it was a few weeks ago after some engagement between him and CEO Leonard Ellerbe on Twitter. However, promoter Oscar De La Hoya has allegedly tried to make a move for Davis while he is under contract with another promoter – and it has not gone down well.
Gervonta Davis has had a year to forget in many ways this year.
He was supposed to be fighting Abner Mares next up but that realistically isn’t happening before the end of the year at this point.
Strained relations with head of his promotional company Floyd Mayweather led to a frustrating 2018 all in all.
Rival promoter Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions celebrated a historic agreement this week with DAZN that saw his star fighter Canelo sign up to the platform for eleven fights over five years.
De La Hoya has now tried to make a move in public to get Davis on the platform:
@Gervontaa you are a beast in the ring and fun to watch, give me a call so I can get you some fights on @DAZN_USA

Leonard Ellerbe has come firing back with:
Whatever the hell you on, you’ve completely lost your damn mind. Do I need to remind you Gervonta is under contract? https://t.co/obZTvqiSq4

Other leading US boxing promoters like Lou DiBella have also said:
Couldn’t see that tweet because boy has me blocked. If someone’s gonna tortuously interfere with another promoter’s contract, don’t do it publicly. Wtf. Maybe enjoy your recent success in a way that allows you to attend YOUR company’s most important press conferences. #boxing https://t.co/1uJ3G009rG

De La Hoya responded with:
Come on Leonard let’s make the best fights on @DAZN_USA we pay a **** load of money. https://t.co/BFFP5uSLiR
