It wasn’t meant to be for 24 year old heavyweight Hughie Fury this weekend in Bulgaria against experienced veteran Kubrat Pulev but plenty of positives can be taken away in the grand scheme of things.
Hughie Fury is ultimately only 24 years of age and has plenty of time on his side.
As for last night’s IBF title eliminator, an early cut to Fury’s eye ultimately stopped any chances he had in the fight as Pulev won a unanimous points decision in Sofia.
After the bout it had emerged that the cut had been caused in sparring only four weeks before and that micro surgery had been performed in the hope the cut would not open in the fight.
Attempts to have the fight put back by Fury’s team were not agreed to by Pulev’s team without Fury losing his mandatory spot for IBF champion Anthony Joshua.
Hughie’s cousin and lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has tweeted at him saying:
@hughiefury well done in the Pulev fight. You can only do your best & @24 years old fighting the top level fighters in the world it’s amazing achievements. You will comeback stronger & more experience! Chin up cuz proud of you!??

No doubt at just 24 years of age Hughie Fury will be back. In heavyweight terms particularly, that is very young.
As for Tyson, he fights next on December 1st against WBC heavyweight world champion Deontay Wilder.
