It wasn’t to be this past weekend for Hughie Fury who at 24 years of age came up short to Kubrat Pulev in Bulgaria over the distance.
Pulev won a unanimous points decision in Sofia after Fury suffered a cut early on in the fight that obscured his vision.
Pulev will now be the official IBF mandatory challenger for Anthony Joshua when the mandatory for the belt is next called for the champion.
Although, he might have to wait for a while if a planned Joshua vs Deontay Wilder fight were to go ahead next April as planned.
Following the fight after the weekend in Bulgaria Hughie’s trainer and father Peter had the following to say on the bout on his Twitter account:
Please understand he was blind in one eye. His vision blurred. After 3 rd round he was in deep water. He will come back.

Twitter experts on again’ HUGHIE went ahead with this fight injured ‘ over to Bulgaria and give pulev all the trouble he could handle on a bad night. Did he go down? Was he stopped ? One judge had it by 2 rounds 15/13.

At 24 Lewis turned pro. Lost fights in round one by ko. Klitschko lost 3 times by ko back to back. And these turned out hall of fame fighters. Hughie comes short in 2 world level fights. He’s futures bright.!!

Pulev gives any heavyweight trouble in that shape. If the eye never went maybe result same’ from what we saw before it looked promising. Thanks to all the fans for support. negative comments are part justified. Thank you.

I’m not ignoring anyone or offended by them. I’ve always interacted with fans good or bad. No excuses he lost this one. In my opinion he would of done better had not been hampered by cut.
