It has been over a year since the whole Conor McGregor and Paulie Malignaggi sparring and fallout saga prior to Mayweather vs McGregor, but for the first, time a promoter has come out and actually said he’d be willing to promote a fight between the two.
And why wouldn’t someone, after all, it would do a lot of numbers from both boxing and UFC fans.
Granted, not for the hardcore fans of either sport, but there’d probably be enough curious intrigue to evoke significant interest from both worlds nonetheless.
Speaking to Kugan Cassius of IFL TV, promoter Eddie Hearn said he’s game:
“I said to him (Malignaggi) this morning, I’d love to do it! DAZN, Oh they’d pay a lot of money for that fight. I said it to Conor McGregor’s guys I’m going to float them the numbers to them see what they think. (Are you serious) Yeah, why not? As I said to Conor McGregor’s guys, maybe he can beat Paulie Malignaggi, I don’t know.”
He added:
“It is a good fight. Didn’t he drop you in sparring? As far as I’m concerned he knocked you out in sparring! We need to make this as big as possible.”
Malignaggi has been retired from the ring for some time now and is a commentator these days while McGregor returned to active competition recently in the UFC.
The story line between the two in a boxing match would certainly grab attention but whether or not both men want the fight at this point is unclear.
