Tonight’s Kal Yafai title fight in Monte Carlo has caused widespread outrage because of the scorecards of the fight after it went the distance.
Yafai got the nod by all three judges to give him a unanimous points decision in the end that saw him defeat Israel Gonzalez and defend his WBA super-flyweight title.
While there is dispute over who won the fight, everybody for the most part is in disagreement with the wide nature of the scoring.
The decision and judges’ scorecards of 117-111, 116-112, 116-112 in favor of the champion has gone done like a sack of spuds:
Day. Light. Robbery.
That’s a ******* horrific result!!

Whenever it’s a close fight, why do people scream robbery? Lazy and easy to say. Scorecards too wide and could’ve gone either way tbf, but nowhere near a robbery.

Scorecards were wide but Kal was the first to admit his performance was flat and lethargic. Personally, what determines his performances of late are a result of the opponent he faced. You’ll see the best version of Yafai against elite operators who’re superb in all departments ⏳
