Recently former WBC light-heavyweight world champion Adonis Stevenson suffered a tragic injury in his most recent bout and today another update has come on his health.
Stevenson is widely regarded as one of the biggest pound for pound punchers in the sport of boxing having blitzed many of his competitors at 175lbs in recent years.
However he suffered knockout defeat at the start of this month at the hands of Oleksandr Gvozdyk which subsequently has left him in a very bad way health wise.
Boxing writer Michael Benson has shared the following update today:
Adonis Stevenson's doctors have given an in-depth update. He's suffered a severe traumatic brain injury and underwent surgery. Remains in induced coma, condition is "stable, but critical." Doctor told press he has a good chance of survival, but long-term consequences are likely. pic.twitter.com/hBLRc46JzD

Never nice to see at all when something happens like this in what is a rare occurence in boxing these days with the level of medical precaution and care taken in the sport.
But if the above can still happen to someone like a world champion like Adonis Stevenson, it just goes to show even with all the health precautions in the world that tragic events like the above are still possible to anyone – at any level on boxing.
We wish Adonis Stevenson a speed recovery at this time.
Here is some of the reaction so far to the above from boxing fans:
I was hoping for better news, boxing gives and takes so much.

Poor bloke.
It’s a stark reminder of how these guys put their life or future on the line every time they enter the ring.
Good luck Adonis. May you have a great recovery. ✊?— Matthew Veasey (@matt_veasey) December 5, 2018
