Throughout negotiations for a possible Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder heavyweight fight this year Joshua had always appeared to be on the A-Side of the negotiations for a potential super fight but now that seems to have changed a bit.
When asked by Kugan Cassius about a possible Joshua vs Wilder fight in 2019, promoter of Joshua Eddie Hearn said:
“I mean, they’ve both raised their value from the last fights don’t get me wrong. But we’ll see how we get on. But, you can’t just ignore AJ’s value – four belts, numbers, draw, but, we want those fights so maybe we have to give a deal that we don’t necessarily feel is right.”
Asked if he believed either fighter deserved a bigger share of the purse split, Hearn replied:
“Not particularly no. (Do you believe they are the same?) Probably. “
Reading between the lines by the above it appears Hearn and Joshua are now closer to going towards a 50/50 split for the fight than ever before.
Whether or not it will be Joshua vs Wilder or a Wilder vs Fury rematch next up remains to be seen but either would be a much welcomed announcement by boxing fans around the world.
