Andre Ward was one of the many people who believed lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury deserved to get the nod recently against WBC champion Deontay Wilder.
Never a man to mince his words, Ward has been on a bit of a roll in terms of dropping knowledge and truth bombs on social media lately.
But back to the Wilder vs Fury fight.
Granted, Fury vs Wilder was a close scrap overall and although the word ‘robbery’ has been branded about regarding the fight being scored a draw, it wasn’t a robbery, really.
Just a fight that should have been given to Fury in my humble opinion. ‘Robbery’ suggests he won the fight by a complete by a total shut out, the two knockdowns scored by Wilder doesn’t make that notion possible.
But Fury still won the fight though according to most people.
Ward who is a former pound for pound star from the US has come in for a lot of flack for not backing his fellow American after the fight in thinking that he won — in terms of flack from some quarters in American boxing including Wilder himself.
Speaking to Fight Hype upon hearing about Wilder’s disappointment in his view on the fight, Ward is standing by his beliefs:
At the end of the day opinions are like a*******.
Everyone has one.
But you can’t knock a man for sticking to his convictions like Ward does above.
Ultimately, the debate about the fight is part of the fun of boxing after a big fight when fans argue it out.
It will inevitably bring about a rematch that will be bigger and more hyped than ever, too.
