A few years ago I thought US and UK boxing would really grow.
During a time when the sport was down but I honestly thought major players in both countries would one day come to one another’s countries to put on and show big fights to the masses.
I’m humbly proud to realise today that I was right.
A while back there were talks that founder of the Premier Boxing Champions series and powerful US boxing manager Al Haymon could be looking to branch out to the UK.
Today the news was officially confirmed as his PBC series signed a deal with UK broadcaster ITV to show 15 events a year on UK TV beamed in live from the States over three years to begin with.
With the likes of UK promoter Eddie Hearn now putting on shows in the US and with Americans like Al Haymon now doing things the other way round in the UK, boxing on both sides of the pond is well and truly thriving.
From a big picture perspective, it’s just another bit of positive news for the sport of boxing worldwide today.
