It has been over a week now since Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury fought to a draw for the WBC heavyweight title but emotion and fan opinion is still at an all time high following what in the eyes of most was an unsatisfactory result.
The overwhelming majority of pundits, writers and fans feel that although the fight was not perhaps a robbery on the truest sense of the word — that Tyson Fury still did enough to get the decision and add the WBC title to his lineal heavyweight champion status.
Not the case according to the great Bernard Hopkins however.
Speaking to us and other members of the media at the grand arrivals for the Canelo Alvarez vs Rocky Fielding fight week in New York, Hopkins said:
No doubt that opinion will cause some healthy debate among boxing fans in the days to come.
Hopkins was at the event last night as he is part of Golden Boy Promotions — the promoter responsible for promoting Canelo Alvarez ahead of this coming weekend’s fight at Madison Square Garden.
As for Fury and Wilder, expect a rematch in the new year between the two that could be one of the biggest heavyweight title fights of all time given the incredible level controversy and debate since their first battle took place a little over a week ago in LA.
