It wasn’t long ago that Chris Eubank Jr was under the Matchroom promotional banner for his boxing career.
A fallout it would appear between his father Eubank senior and Eddie Hearn made the relationship hard to continue and Eubank Jr now finds himself looking to fight James DeGale next up in 2019.
It’s unclear if it will happen though and at this point Eubank Jr’s career has gone into limbo a bit.
Matchroom chief Barry Hearn believes his father has not guided him correctly in his pro career and that Eubank Jr has not really progressed as a fighter in recent years as a result of what in his view is because of training himself and directing his own career.
Speaking to Seconds Out, Barry Hearn said Eubank Jr at this point might as well look for a huge fight in the middleweight division:
“The kid can fight. I think he’s got huge potential. Tremendous hand speed. Not enough power on the front foot. I think he’s got a great chin like his dad. He’s got all the ingredients to be a superstar but where is he? He’s going to fight James DeGale next sometime somewhere? What does that mean? I think DeGale is not going forward but can still fight a bit. Does it sell out — does it do numbers on pay per view? Now is a time I think to fight Golovkin. It was on the cards with us but it was all talk (in the past).”
Golovkin has no opponent next himself at the time of this article.
